Lack of Transparent Culture – As a manager and part of the leadership team, I was explicitly instructed by upper management not to be transparent with my team about important topics like compensation and vacation policies. This created an environment of mistrust and made it difficult to build genuine, respectful working relationships. Accountability Gaps in Leadership – In most organizations, managers share responsibility when a team member struggles or when a project fails. At Super, that accountability structure was lacking. Upper management often shifted blame onto teams while distancing themselves from issues. Despite performance improvement plans and even layoffs occurring within teams, some senior leaders still received promotions, which was disappointing and demoralizing.
