Pay & Income: The pay is off, god awful, $13 an hour -> I now make $18 an hour, I only accepted the job out of desperation to find something at the time, and was randomly let go right before the Coronavirus outbreak. -The local Gas Station pays as much as they do, as does the Grocery Store (for a Cashier, not any form of management or team leading). They will REFUSE to negotiate pay altogether, I am legitimately an Expert Typist, a Seasoned Skiptracer, having worked for, and continuing to do so, Companies that make in a few days what this company does in a good year. They wouldn't even budge 50 cents, no matter if you are a greenhorn or not, they'll still pay you about the same as a Grocery Store. Feedback and Education: They ask for feedback, but will give MASSIVE pushback to any received. At one point I was flat out told that we could not make common sense changes so soon after I had started, per my suggestions, as it would reflect poorly on the team. Not a major issue, I worked at Globe-spanning corporations, I may be young, but that does not mean my experience is somehow invalid, and trust me, when a very successful company does it this way, there is probably a reason. Illegal 'lunch & learns', I debated about whether or not to lodge a complaint with the government over them, they are mandatory events that you have to attend during your unpaid lunch hour. Schedule Flexibility: Yes, a full lunch hour, you are NOT permitted to take anything less. Inflexible start and end times, despite knowing that I (and other employees) had a lengthy drive home, particularly in traffic, they refused to alter the start and stop times accordingly. I was getting up at 6 am, leaving by 6:30 am, just to be able to get 717 Parking. Yes, that is right, they do NOT have reserved parking for the employees, you will have to pay out of your own pocket, reimbursed up to a set amount, and find it yourself (good luck!). My days were essentially from 6:30 am to 7:12 pm daily, which is the time when I would arrive home, before having to cook, eat, and wind down before going to sleep to repeat it all over again. All that for $13 an hour, and only 8 hours (the other 5 hours were just collateral damage). 'Culture': Not only 'purely professional', but coldly so. You are expected to put on a facade, I hope you are a good actor, and be super cheery at all times, excited, etc. If you had ADHD, Depression, or anything along those lines you'll most likely be fired for any number of reasons (Negative Attitude, Not a Cultural Fit, they'll figure out something). One person flat out told me that they had to pretend to be happy, to be fine, while on the inside, nothing is fine, and that they were in a bad place. Most of the team (particularly the recruiters) would be clinically diagnosed as alcoholics, not bad people, but you can tell what their jobs are doing to them. Not a good thing when the Owner cracks a 'joke' during the Interview about drug testing, saying that they do not do it, as he would be 'scared to see what the Recruiters would test'. He tried to brush it off, and I initially thought of it as a joke, but for real, I'd be surprised if a single person there was not either A) a drinker, B) addicted to some form of drugs, or C) on some serious antidepressants and other anti-psychotics. Final Thoughts: I can't stress this enough, I thought about posting this review for quite awhile now, and I stopped myself several times. However, I wouldn't forgive myself if someone did their due diligence, but missed critical facts b/c I decided against it. I wouldn't work for them again, I'd be more than willing to work with the solid majority of the people, they were good people, but the management and executive team seem to have some major flaws in their business, and I genuinely hope that they turn it around, and fix these issues.

Velocity was a great place to start my career in talent acquisition and helped to shape me into the recruiter I am today. Many of my coworkers became close friends and the collaboration among the recruitment team was always special. People went above and beyond to help each other and to balance the ebbs and flows of the workload. There was also frequently fun snacks and food brought into the office. At the beginning, the culture was strong and we used to have team bonding events and celebrations outside of work.

Leadership tends to make decisions based on emotion, and a lot of things get rolled out before they’re fully established or thought through. It often feels like the company’s strategy is to keep employees for a few years and then find ways to push them out once their salaries get higher. Top performers were let go with no explanation. Leadership is quick to label former employees as disrespectful or having attitudes. There’s also a heavy focus on AI and improving an internal CRM, even though there are already plenty of established 3rd party platforms that do the same thing. It doesn’t feel new or innovative, but it’s being prioritized at the expense of other areas that need focus. It's not uncommon for processes to change from day to day. Unorganized chaos is how I would describe the average week at Velocity. There’s a strong sense that leadership prioritizes themselves and their own financial interests first. Nepotism is so prevalent across the company that it's hardly worth mentioning - it's just the way it is and that will never change. Even as a top performer who stayed in the same role for a few years, there were no real conversations around growth or advancement. Overall, it feels like there’s absolutely no investment in employee development, which is something anyone considering the company should be aware of. In fact, leadership consistently seemed inconvenienced by people wanting to advance in their career.
