Enough leeway is given in trying out new technologies. Since the employer is state of Virginia there is a great job stability and excellent retirement benefits as well. The fear of layoffs is never there on the minds of people.

Due to the lack of industries in the area there are less opportunities of growth. The only salary raises people usually get are not more than the standard inflationary raise allowed by the state of Virginia.
