I was lucky enough to get hired prior to coming to Canada thanks to the "Destination Canada "Job fair in Paris. I was issued a Francophone mobility visa and received a lot of help from the HR department to complete my application. You are taken care of from the moment you arrive to the moment you sadly have to leave. The orientation and training process are incredible. Everything is made so you feel confident and empowered enough to do your job to the best of your abilities. The Wick is a "Pool" of incredible talents and personalities. You have something to learn from every single person. It is a human experience in itself and it will change you more than you can ever imagine. Seeing how dedicated everyone is to do an impeccable job by exceeding guests expectations is truly inspiring. It pushes you further and further towards excellence and enables you to find yourself. After the people working there, location is definitely what makes the Wick a very special place. You will not believe your eyes when you'll see bald eagles on property, huge waves coming to crash against the windows or a pod of orcas passing by near the Pointe Restaurant (only if you get lucky!). When feeling stressed while working, you just have to look through the windows to remind yourself how unique this place is! Staff parties, lunch/diners, team buildings are awesome! What makes this place even more special is its history. Charles McDiarmid is so approachable and will share with you all the little anecdotes of his journey. Being able to connect on a professional but also personal level definitely makes a difference and grows this sense of belonging.

I came in Tofino with my boyfriend who wasn't working at the Wick so we couldn't stay at the staff accom. We were lucky enough to find our own accommodation although we had to move 4 times in almost 2 years. It is the reality in Tofino but if you stay positive and don't give up, you eventually find something. This uncertainty makes it hard to really feel settled and build a future in Tofino. The Wick is for hardworking people. You have to be ready to commit and to work with very high standards. It is not a secret, a World Class Inn gathers extremely talented people! So if you are up to the challenge, apply!

Although it is always sad when someone leaves, we are continually inspired by those that go on to further develop their careers and achieve new accomplishments. We are certainly aware and understand that Tofino’s challenging rental housing market plays a part in some staff not being able to create a stable home in Tofino. We continue to look at our existing staff housing and future development opportunities, as well as being involved with the local government in efforts to see more affordable housing in Tofino. You are surrounded by staff and management who give their best every day in order to provide memorable guest experiences. If you are looking to prove yourself and work in a team environment that does the same, then this is the place for you!

We certainly appreciate that we do encounter staffing issues due to our remote location and, of course, most recently due to the Pandemic. Remote locations such as Tofino do have a much smaller pool of potential employees and shortage of staff has sadly become the norm throughout Tofino. We truly appreciate the dedication our team has shown to ensure all of our guests remain safe and have a wonderful experience despite the challenges.
