The recruiter and the technical interviewer had different expectations set.
The recruiter explicitly mentioned several times that even though Modash is using Vue.js, they were not expecting candidates to know it, and it was okay to google the documentation during the interview. I came prepared, refreshed my Vue knowledge, and memorized the concepts.
The technical interviewer wasn't professional:
- He asked if it was okay to record the interview because he was learning and did not have much experience in technical interviews
- He went through a checklist of questions and technical challenges for Vue, during which I went to check Vue documentation exactly once
- He went through a pre-made list of questions about my past projects, nodded, and never asked any clarifying questions
Overall, I felt the interview was extremely easy.
The next day I get a rejection letter with the following reasoning:
- Wasn't proficient in Vue enough
- Couldn't tell much about past projects
I could only advise them to watch the video they recorded and communicate they expectations clearer not to waste each other's time.
