      Sollicitatiegesprek

I applied online, and their recruiter reached out to me after a few days. We had a quick 15 mins initial conversation on the phone, which was pretty basic one. The next step was meeting with the hiring manager in person onsite. We had an hour long onsite interview. He was pretty new to the company, so that he basically explained to me how he is planning to build a new design team and his product design principles. I also presented my portfolio very briefly, but it seemed that he was more interested in hearing from the candidates about the way of design thinking and problem solving. The recruiter send me a design exercise right after the interview with the hiring manager, but I recognized that they are using the exact same design question as Google use which was a bit awkward, but I picked on of the topics and tackled down. They told me that don't spend more than 2-4 hours, but it wasn't that easy exercise so that I needed to spend 3 whole nights. After I submit my design exercise, I was invited to an onsite interview right away. The onsite interview was 3 hours long. 1 hour is for a design exercise presentation, the rest for a 2:1 interviews with PMs, Designers and Engineers. All the questions were pretty basic and standard. People were nice in general, but some people seemed pretty tired or less interested. Overall it went well, but I wasn't sure if they were enjoying the time with me, since I didn't feel that much energy from them during the interview. After that, the recruiter set up a phone call with their SVP, and they said that that will be the final step. The phone call went well as well. The next day, I received a call regrading next steps and the recruiter told me that they want to know my job search status and what other offers on the table. I told them everything honestly and wanted to discuss further steps. I thought everything went well, since they start asking me a very detailed questions, however I received no thank you email from them without that much explanations. It sounded like because of the compensation, but I wasn't sure what was the real reason. But I just wanted to clarify a bit more at the end since this process wasn't easy on my end at all. Overall my impression of this company was okay. The hiring manager was pretty smart and sharp. However other folks that met were less energetic and seems a bit depressed. Maybe because of the recent layoffs, but it might be their company culture.
