At Crowe, we’re committed to raising awareness about mental health and suicide. Our collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is one way we are continuing the conversation around mental health. Research shows that feeling connected to family and community support is one of the most important protective factors in reducing the likelihood of suicide. Through the Crowe Foundation, we’ve supported AFSP in many ways – from sponsoring “Out of the Darkness” Walks in cities across the U.S., to contributing to AFSP’s annual fundraising gala. Together with AFSP, we’ve also delivered presentations internally to our people and externally in the market to increase awareness and break down stigmas, particularly in underrepresented communities – including sessions at this year’s NABA Inc. and Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) national conferences. If you or somebody you know needs help, call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or text TALK to 741741 to speak with a crisis counselor.
Crowe proudly supports CAQ Accounting+ and students at Simeon Career Academy in Chicago. This past spring, Crowe’s Mark Baer, Brian Jackson, and Shirley Parades presented the “Accounting Careers Limitless Opportunities” course to students at Simeon Career Academy in Chicago. Coordinated by the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) Accounting+ program, the course teaches students in classrooms across the U.S. about the wide array of career opportunities within accounting – while also helping to build a more diverse and robust pipeline of talent for the future of the profession. During the interactive course, Simeon students participated in career exploration activities while connecting directly with Mark, Brian, and Shirley and gaining valuable insights into the accounting profession from the experiences they shared. At the end of the course, Crowe also made a donation to Simeon's accounting program to support its Accounting Lab. This Global Volunteer Month, Sherman Wilson makes connections and supports the well-being of military families. Wilson, a State and Local Tax Senior Manager at Crowe, proudly represents the firm as a Stewardship Ambassador. He oversees volunteer initiatives for Crowe's New York office and the Crowe Foundation while making a significant impact in his community through Tuesday's Children. This organization supports those affected by terrorism, military conflict, or mass violence, offering healing and fostering resilience. With a personal connection to the military—a nod to his father's service—Sherman found synergy in his desire to give back. He contributes as a youth mentor to a military child of the same age as his son, guiding and supporting the young individual's development. He cherishes the experience, valuing the opportunity to be a reliable presence in the child's life. Tuesday's Children has made remarkable strides since its inception post-9/11, assisting over 10,000 individuals and providing mental health and well-being programs to an additional 500+ individuals. Sherman takes pride in contributing to their mission, helping transform suffering into strength and offering peer support that promotes overall health.
