“I have never ever in my career seen the type of damage, and the type of insult to the people we serve that is going to happen with this particular bill,” said Dan Russell, CEO of Genesee Health System.
"On July 10, at a press conference held at the new GHS location on Bristol Road, in Flint, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet pointed that in addition to providing health care for a quarter of a million people, Medicaid also helps fund hospitals."

“Our Medicaid budget is about 90% to 95% of our funding. We get other kinds of funding, but it is a very small percentage of our overall budget. So, any kind of cut is going to be difficult. The kind of cuts they’re talking about to get to the budget number that the administration has targeted would be devastating,” Russell said.
Russell highlighted the importance of Medicaid, stating, "It's a good program. It provides good services. And, you know, I'm sure there is some waste and abuse as there is in any program, but most of the people that we see on Medicaid need it."
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is a 40-hour training offered quarterly to law enforcement and first responders focusing on mental health education, warning signs/symptoms, substance abuse, officer wellness, scenario-based skill application through role plays, and non-violent crisis intervention. This is a Genesee County Millage funded program.
