With food insecurity rates in our country rising every year, UVA Health has spent the last five years increasing access to nutritious foods with their Dialysis Food Pharmacy Program. Lesley McPhatter, MS, RDN, CSR, Clinical Nutrition Manager at UVA Health Lynchburg, rallies support throughout all UVA Health locations and has helped provide 9,000 bags to 450+ dialysis patients since 2020 with the help of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
In the past few years, we have been on a mission to implement more sustainable practices in any way possible and be hashtag#PartnersForThePlanet. Through our partnership with Chef Works, we were able to source and supply new chef uniforms that positively impact the environment due to their sustainable materials. Each uniform coat is made of 8-11 recycled water bottles, and provides functional, stylish uniforms that, in turn, help the planet. Rochel shared a personal connection with this patient, as she grew up kosher and speaks Hebrew, so she was able to effectively communicate with him and his family about custom meal options.
