Growing up neurodivergent, Alysa Oradat felt the need to mask her differences. Now, she says the things that make her different are some of her greatest strengths. Being hyperlexic, she says her problem-solving and innate research skills are great assets in her role as a Program Manager. This #DisabilityPrideMonth, she shares how her journey of acceptance and advocacy evolved when she had her daughter. Alysa’s daughter was born with a limb difference and was later diagnosed as autistic and non-speaking. To ensure she got the best support, Alysa and her family moved 3,000 miles to a community with better resources. Alysa also became fluent in speech-generating software to teach her daughter to communicate through technology and began mentoring parents of children with disabilities to ensure they have fair access to education. For Alysa, this month’s theme, “Different Than, Not Less Than,” is a reminder there is still so much to be done for the advancement of disability rights — and we can't do it alone. She says the support she receives from the #VTeam has empowered her to have a successful career while parenting a disabled child and toddler. “The benefits and community I’ve found are driving forces behind my ability to do it all.” Learn about employee resource groups like #VerizonADVANCE: https://vz.to/4cXthVi

After retiring from the military, Rob Moyer joined Verizon as an Internal Audit Consultant through a Hiring Our Heroes fellowship. In this role, he was able to learn about Verizon as a whole and experience firsthand how critical connections are to our success. Rob also found the opportunity to do a whole lot of networking, where he learned about paths that closely aligned with his military experience of bringing different groups together to facilitate the overall mission. With support from his leadership team and the military recruiter who first brought him to the #VTeam, he switched gears to Program and Project Management. In this role, Rob is able to use his military skills to implement new processes and guide others to success through teamwork. His advice? Don’t think of your first role as a finish line, but instead the starting point of your career. 👏 Explore opportunities: https://vz.to/3W37MLy #VTeamCareerShifters
