Reflecting on my time at Bitvavo, I'm disheartened by the pervasive issues that have tainted the workplace atmosphere. The prevalent sense of distrust and covert competition breeds a toxic environment where collaboration is undermined by underhanded tactics.
Nepotism runs rampant within Bitvavo, with real opportunities seemingly reserved for those with personal connections to higher-ups. This perpetuates a sense of unfairness among the overlooked majority and erodes morale.
Accountability is notably lacking in the leadership, with mistakes often overlooked and individuals rarely facing repercussions, especially if they are well connected with the senior management. This fosters a culture of mediocrity and complacency within the organization.
Sexism rears its head, with women frequently marginalized and excluded from real leadership roles. This not only hampers their professional growth but also undermines overall workforce morale and cohesion.
The organizational structure offers little solace, as it looks like it is being designed to privilege personal agendas over team well-being. Rather than offering support and direction, individuals in positions of authority exhibit self-serving tendencies that contribute to the negative atmosphere. Employees can be more or less openly exploited being called accountable for covering up the management missteps.
Within Bitvavo, there exists a disturbing paradox where individuals who possess the power to effect change often appear either oblivious to the challenges plaguing the organization or are actively complicit in perpetuating them. It's a disheartening reality where those in positions of authority, rather than addressing issues head-on, seem to prefer turning a blind eye or even exacerbating existing problems.
In this environment, stepping up to confront issues is akin to walking into a trap. Those who dare to speak out or advocate for positive change often find themselves targeted for retaliation by the very individuals responsible for creating or perpetuating the issues at hand. It's a chilling dynamic where accountability is elusive, and those who dare to challenge the status quo are met with resistance and reprisal. Bitvavo has whistleblowing policies, but they are merely a facade, offering little protection to those who raise legitimate concerns. Whistleblowers have faced sudden and severe retaliation, further discouraging employees from speaking out against misconduct or unethical behavior.
Those within management who once sought to address systemic issues looks like they have been silenced or marginalized, leading to a sense of resignation among those hoping for positive change.
This culture made of distrust, shameless privilege and fear plus a history of implementing abrupt changes to contracts and salaries without adequate explanation has led to a breakdown in trust and communication, with gossip becoming the primary means of trustworthy information exchange. This instability adds stress and erodes trust among employees to such an extent that burnouts or people simply “disappearing” are a way too common reality. To provide an example of which kind of situation the workforce is in, the senior management attempted to maintain and offer only contracts as one-year fixed terms as long as possible regardless of any previous agreement aiming to gain absolute control and leverage for retaliation on employees and only a general upheaval prevented this from happening, till now.
The CEO's leadership is weak and unfitting, lacking direction and prone to following trends rather than setting them. Placing unwarranted trust in the wrong individuals perpetuates poor decision-making spiral and exacerbates existing issues.
Externally, Bitvavo's reputation has suffered, with recruiters and potential hires wary of the dysfunctional environment.
In light of these challenges, the future of Bitvavo appears fraught with obstacles. Potential employees should approach with caution and awareness of the risks involved.
