For example, the company still offers a pension plan and has no intention of ever abandoning it. It is very common to be in a meeting where the majority of attendees have 10 or more years under their belt. There is a shocking number of employees with 15, 20, or 25 years of experience. The review process and culture encourage continue growth, but at the same time most departments do not try to force people to move "up and out".
