The downside is that there are no real rewards to doing a GREAT job. Managers don't feel a need to compliment you on a job well done, though they are quick to find fault when something goes wrong. And god forbid your boss doesn't like you--it's an atmosphere of your word against your boss. Upper management will side with its own.
