Pluspunten
As a package car driver, the money is great once you get to 16 months. Not many firms will pay this as an hourly rate. Plenty of overtime available inc Saturdays. Driver training is available
Minpunten
Most of the buildings UPS own don’t have modern up to date washing facilities. No showers and/or drying rooms. Cycling to work is not really supported. The management WILL BULLY YOU to stay out and deliver. They have no compassion for anything outside of the business. A Family and a home life do not exist when working as a package car driver, unless you stick to your guns. The 9 1/2 hour forms are magical. Ask your shop steward for one. Progression to more senior positions will never happen. They will promise you everything, but the reality is it’s not going to happen. They’d rather move someone from another centre to backfill then give someone the opportunity. The UPS rule book will only apply when you’ve done something wrong (even a mistake) the management don’t follow it unless challenged. The company is still very much in the dark ages. Still doing everything by paper, old technology and no lateral thinking. They will hound you via your OWN personal mobile phone (which they won’t pay for or provide one to you) whilst working, even when on the No Call List. Drivers are not incentivised, it’s always take take take and no thanks. Daily routes will be closed down and the workload will be put on to other drivers just so they hit targets, putting drivers at high risk. No discipline
