The future we build could depend on research we don’t read. Basil Mahfouz's work highlights a striking gap: roughly two-thirds of science flagged as highly relevant to policy is never cited. Not because it is weak, but because it is invisible. As AI changes how evidence is discovered and used, the question is not only whether it can summarize research. It is whether it can help widen the field of view. Read more: http://spkl.io/60487D6BO

Elsevier has launched Shadow Health Lab with Virtual Reality — a clinical simulation solution designed to help nursing students build confidence and clinical judgment before they enter practice. The platform brings together more than 165 evidence-based lab simulations and 30 virtual reality patient encounters, each supported by structured preparation, facilitation and debriefing tools. Students can engage with a wide range of conditions and patient needs — in an immersive environment that mirrors the complexity of real clinical settings. The need is clear. Our Clinician of the Future 2026: Nurses Edition found that 61% of nurses are seeing more patients than a year ago, while increasing patient volumes, administration and complexity are squeezing time for care. Training that builds prioritization, decision-making and communication skills before graduation has never been more important. Shadow Health Lab with Virtual Reality is now available to undergraduate nursing programs. Learn more: http://spkl.io/604978ZQF
New research in Elsevier’s Current Biology by Cell Press shows how Bruce, an endangered kea at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve in New Zealand, developed a novel “beak jousting” technique using his exposed lower beak. Across recorded male dominance interactions, Bruce won every interaction he was part of. His jousting displaced opponents immediately 73% of the time and gave him priority access to feeders and social grooming.

Fast answers built on a shallow evidence base do not solve the bias problem. They reproduce it faster. As AI becomes part of research and decision-making, the quality of the underlying evidence matters as much as the capability of the model. Better decisions require broader evidence, trusted sources, and insights that can be traced back to where they came from. Read more: http://spkl.io/60447D6DY
